The area includes hardwood forest, marshes, river shoreline, and a picnic area with an overlook. You'll find an accessible historical walk and hunting blinds on the grounds. The site preserves significant natural habitat and contains multiple layers of history, including early American Indian sites, Civil War remnants, and colonial-era structures.
Hiking and horseback riding are primary uses here. The property also allows hunting and fossil collecting. This is one of the few undeveloped stretches remaining along the Potomac River in this region.
The BLM manages this site under a co-management agreement with Maryland state agencies. Because this is developed property with day-use facilities, overnight camping rules differ from typical BLM dispersed land. Camping may be restricted to specific areas or prohibited entirely. Contact the BLM Maryland office or the Maryland Department of Natural Resources before your visit to confirm permitted uses and current policies.
