This is a day-use recreation area, not a campground. The visitor contact station serves as a place to learn about BLM programs. You can pick up maps and educational materials here. Staff can also answer questions about the broader Lower Potomac Field Station holdings. The office is open weekdays from 10am to 2pm. Appointments are available outside those hours.

Meadowood has 13.4 miles of hiking trails open year-round. Horseback riders can use 7 miles of designated paths. Mountain bikers get 6.6 miles across three named trails: Yard Sale, Stinger, and Boss. Each trail has its own character and skill level. The area also includes two fishing ponds and three open meadows with native plants. Mixed hardwood forest and wetlands make up the rest of the landscape. You may encounter migratory and resident birds, deer, and other wildlife.

The BLM also manages Douglas Point SRMA in Charles County, Maryland. This site covers about 548 acres of forest and marsh. Roughly 2 miles of trails support hiking, horseback riding, hunting, and birdwatching. The Blue Banks Trail provides water access to the Potomac River for fossil hunting and kayaking.

Camping is not an option at either Meadowood or Douglas Point. Both are day-use recreation areas. If you're looking for camping on BLM land in Virginia, you can find dispersed camping on other BLM holdings, where the 14-day rule per camp area typically applies.
