Overview

Blackfoot Reservoir Campground is on the southwest end of Idaho's second-largest reservoir, managed by the BLM. The reservoir spans 18,000 surface acres when full. You camp here in the developed loop from May through September, the official fee season. The campground has 16 fully developed RV sites with 50-amp hookups and potable water access. Another 12 standard sites are in the overflow dispersed section with graveled pads and fire rings. Day-use areas and two boat ramps round out the facility.

Each RV site includes a graveled pad, tent area, shelter, picnic table, and fire ring. Four sites are pull-through; the rest are back-in only. Site 7 is wheelchair accessible. The standard sites have pads, tables, and rings but no hookups. You also get vaulted restrooms, a dump station, trash service, and water hydrants spread across the grounds. A fishing platform and group shelter with grills sit near the water.

You can stay year-round here, though the fee season runs mid-May to mid-September. Five sites (10, 11, 13, 14, 16) take reservations. The rest are first come, first serve with self-pay stations. You pay per night, and extra vehicles cost more per night. Outside fee season, camping is free but with fewer services. Per BLM policy, the 14-day rule applies across the recreation area.

Fishing runs almost the entire year for cutthroat, rainbow trout, smallmouth bass, and cutbows. The Blackfoot River below the dam holds 23 miles of floatable water with Class II and a few Class III rapids. You can use motorized boats on the reservoir or non-motorized craft like kayaks and rafts. Big game hunting in fall brings crowds, so book early if you hunt. Wildlife viewing and swimming round out the water-based activities here.

Fire restrictions hit hard in late summer. Check current burn bans before you light a fire ring. The gravel roads handle normal traffic but turn soft after rain. Call the BLM Pocatello Field Office at 208-236-6700 before you go.
